When it comes to the holidays, I love making special memories with my kids. Making memories is what brings families together and it really helps put you in the Christmas spirit. I really enjoy all of the Christmas traditions that we do with each other. The special memories that we make are priceless, and I am always looking for new Christmas traditions to make with my family. The 10 Christmas traditions below are some of our favorite things that we love to do every year!
Decorate Your Christmas Tree Together

As soon as Halloween is over, my family and I always look forward to putting up the Christmas tree. My kids love decorating the tree. Decorating the Christmas tree kickstarts all of the Christmas traditions for us. You can play Christmas movies in the background or your favorite Christmas movies. Either way, it is so much fun doing things together as a family, and your children will sure look forward to this tradition every year.
Ornaments

Of course, you need ornaments for your Christmas tree. But one thing that I really enjoy doing is making ornaments with my children. I used to always buy my kids their very own ornament from the store every year. It wasn’t until my daughter started to bring her craft ornaments home from school that I started to think that I should have my kids make their own special ornaments. There is something about crafted ornaments that make them even more special. Every year I pull out these ornaments and I am filled with so much happiness to see my kid’s sweet ornaments from past Christmases.
Christmas Cookies

Making and decorating Christmas cookies are so much fun, and It allows children to be creative. My older daughter loves helping me make and decorate cookies for the holidays. She loves mixing all the ingredients, cutting the dough with cookie cutters, and finishing it up with icing and sprinkles. Making cookies is an awesome way to bond with your children during the holidays. Being creative is something that my children love to do, and I always enjoy doing things like this every year.
Christmas Movies

Who doesn’t love all the classic Christmas movies? My family and I never get tired of watching all of the Home Alone movies, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. I have seen these movies thousands of times, but they never get old. During the month of December, we always enjoy watching Christmas movies because they really put us in the Christmas spirit. Watching Christmas movies is a tradition that we never get tired of.
Christmas Lights

Usually, on Christmas Eve or Christmas night, we always go around looking at Christmas lights. My children light up while looking at all of the beautiful lights. You can go all out with hot cocoa and Christmas music to make it even more special.
Decorate a Gingerbread House

Building and decorating a gingerbread house is another Christmas tradition that we do every year. Although I must admit, I always buy the house that is already built, because there is nothing more frustrating than a gingerbread house that keeps falling apart. So to save my kids and me frustration, we buy it already put together. But my kids love decorating the gingerbread house, and I love seeing their faces light up even more!
Elf on the Shelf

Elf on the Shelf is such a fun holiday tradition. My kids love to see all the funny mischief that the Elf gets into. I also love reading the Elf on the Shelf story to them as well! The Elf on the Shelf tradition kickstarts the holidays for all the fun thats ahead.
Visit Santa Clause

I love taking my kids to the mall to have annual pictures with Sana Clause. I love to capture this moment every year because they are so excited to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. Because I have a new addition, I look forward to seeing all three of them take a picture together.
Giving to Someone Less Unfortunate

Something that I want to incorporate into our Christmas traditions is teaching my children to learn how to give back. It is so important for them to know that it is not always about receiving. I want them to know what Christmas really means and how important it is to help others who are less unfortunate. I want to do an angel tree with them so they can pick out a gift for a sweet little girl or boy and learn the meaning of giving back.
Track Santa

My kids absolutely love watching the Santa tracker on Christmas Eve. They like to ask me throughout the day to see my phone to see where Santa is. You can go on YouYube or Google to find Santa trackers. But I just love making their Christmas as special as I can!
I hope these Christmas traditions inspire you to create special memories with your kids. Your kids will remember these moments so much more than the gifts that they receive. Make sure you take pictures of the memories and over time you can look back on the wonderful moments you spent together.
