How to Find Your Own Style
Step 1: Take Time to Reflect on Who You are and What You Love

The first steps when trying to determine your personal style you should think about the following:
- What do you currently wear now?
- What is your favorite color?
- What color do you like to wear or what color looks best on you?
- What looks good for your specific body type
- What makes you feel good?
- Who inspires you when it comes to style?
- When thinking about style what does your taste gear towards?
- If you could have $1000 to spend on your dream wardrobe what store would you go to?
These are just a few questions that I want you to think about when it comes to finding your own personal style. When it comes to what you are currently wearing now, do you like what your current style is? If you could change anything what would you change about your attire? Go into your closet and pick out the things that you love and what you want to get rid of. This is a great starting point when it comes to discovering what your personal style is.
What color do you gear towards when it comes to clothing? For me, although I wear a lot of pinks, I also wear a lot of blacks as well. I find that black is very slimming, and it flatters me really well. If you love a classic look, you may not want to wear bright colors like hot pinks or neon yellows.
What makes you feel good? If you can put all your everyday worries aside, what would you put on to make you feel pretty? Sometimes I get so wrapped up in everyday mommy duties that I can simply put on a pair of leggings and a t-shirt because it is just simple and easy. But if I woke up with all the time in the world, I would love to put on a super cute dress, accessories, and a cute pair of shoes to start my day.
Who inspires you? Think about your favorite musician or actress, does anything about their style resonate with you? If you flip through a magazine or scroll through social media, do you see clothes that you are instantly drawn to?
If money wasn’t an obstacle, what store would you go to build your dream wardrobe? Browse different stores online and see what the models are wearing. Could you picture yourself with that exact outfit on? Also, always remember that even if a particular store is expensive, you can easily recreate that outfit for cheaper.
Step #2 Take Time to Look Into Different Types of Styles
When it comes to styles, there are so many options that can best fit you. You may relate to one specific style the most or you can even be a combination of a few styles mixed together. Below is just a few style types that you may relate to the most. This list does not scratch the surface of all the styles that are out there, so don’t feel pigeonholed if you don’t fall within a specific style type.
Bohemian (Boho Chic)

If you find yourself drawn to the 70s flare and you consider yourself to be a hippie, then a bohemian style may fit you the best. Bohemian or ‘boho’ as it’s often called, is for people who love an effortless and relaxed style.
Most boho-style clothing is loose fit and free of structure. This allows anyone to be free, comfortable, and not confined by the world’s standard of beauty. Long flowy skirts and dresses, flowy tops. flared bottoms, fringe, and mixed prints make up the perfect boho wardrobe.
Classic

A classic style is for someone who prefers timeless, well-put-together, and polished looks. If you like clothes that are simple, tailored, and with a side of elegance then you may have a classic style. When I think of classic looks, I think of a crisp white button-up shirt with a pair of simple denim jeans.
I also think of fashion from Paris because their clothes are elegant but simple at the same time. If you want a more dressed-up look, a tailored dress is perfect for someone who loves a classic look. Classic styles transcend the test of time. After all the fads and trends fade away, classic clothing never gets old and doesn’t go out of style.
Casual

A casual style is everyday clothing that is easy, effortless, and comfortable. Casual clothing includes leggings, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, etc…The great thing about casual wear is that you can style it in so many ways to make you look your very best.
I love wearing a simple pair of biker shorts, a t-shirt, tennis shoes, and accessories to create the perfect everyday look. A casual style is perfect for someone who doesn’t want to fuss with clothes and wants something easy and functional.
Girly/Feminine

A girly/feminine style is for people who love wearing clothing with soft colors, laces, ruffles, chiffon, etc… Dresses and skirts are go-to items for people who have a girly/feminine style. Also, cute accessories like headbands, jewelry, handbags, and shoes help add to that feminine style.
Business Casual

A business casual style is a mix of professional and casual wear. Business casual is the best of both worlds because it allows you to be dressed up and comfortable at the same time. A business casual style can consist of a blazer and a dress, a nice blouse with a pair of jeans, or a pair of leggings with a nice white button-up shirt.
Business casual allows you to have the best of both worlds because you can put two different styles together to create something perfect for work or somewhere that requires you to dress up a little bit.
Step # 3 Create a Visual Mood Board of Your Favorite Outfits

At this point, you should have an idea of a style that speaks to you the most. Now what? If you have no idea where to even start or how to put clothes together, then this is the time to explore some outfit inspirations. The best way to get inspiration is by seeing outfits put together so you can get a visual of all the possibilities you can do when creating outfits. The number one place that I go to find style inspiration is Pinterest. For me, it is so easy to get lost on Pinterest because there are endless possibilities when it comes to finding what you are searching for.
You can create your very own virtual style board of all the outfits that you like on Pinterest. When I need inspiration on a cute feminine style, I simply type “cute outfits, “girly outfits” or”cute wardrobe ideas”. When I click search, I get endless amounts of wardrobe ideas to fit the style that I am looking for. Once I find outfits that I like I pin them to my board. When I see other people dress in my preferred style, I get so many outfit ideas that I wouldn’t have even thought about. Also, the great thing about Pinterest is that it remembers what you are searching for. Pinterest will keep suggesting new things to you after your initial search, which is awesome!
Another fun way of creating a style board is by grabbing some magazines and cutting out styles that you love the most. Paste these outfits on a poster board to build your ideal wardrobe style guide. No matter how you do it, it is always fun to have a visual representation of how you would like to build your ideal wardrobe.
Step # 4 Get Out and Try on Different Outfits

This is a fun way of trying on things that you would have never thought to try on. You can go to the mall, a local boutique, or one of your favorite stores. Also, Amazon Prime lets you order clothes to see how they look on you, and you can return what doesn’t work and pay for the things that do work.
This is a great way to try on clothes from the comfort of your own home. Trying on clothes gives you a great visual of what clothing looks the best and gives you an idea of your personal preference. You will also be surprised how good something may look on you versus just being on the hanger.
Step # 5 Go Shopping!

This is the fun part! This is the time to start shopping for pieces to build your wardrobe. This can take time, but whenever you’re able to, shop for a few pieces at a time. Over time, you will see your wardrobe growing to fit your personal style.
Finding your style can be very fun. All it takes is for you to look in the mirror and discover what you love the most and how you would prefer to look. Don’t be afraid to take chances and try on something new. You will be so happy that you did!

Finding your own style can be super fun! In many ways finding your own style is the perfect way to explore who you are and what you love. I always feel that when you look your best, you feel your best. I hope that finding your own style will inspire you to wear what you love so you can be the best you ever,
