Step 1: Pull Everything Out and Declutter Your Closet
When it comes to organizing your closet, the first thing you should do is pull out everything in your closet. Make your closet a clear canvas and envision what you would love it to look like. Pulling everything out of your closet gives you a visual of what your closet space can become no matter the size.
Once you pull everything out of your closet, this is the perfect time to get rid of items that you have not worn in a very long time or items you simply do not need. This is where you will have to be honest with yourself and make a decision on whether you need a particular item or not. If something has been sitting in your closet for a year and you have not touched it, it’s pretty safe to say you may not need it.
A lot of times it is hard to get rid of things, but decluttering your closet is the first thing that needs to be done to create an organized space. Sometimes it can be really hard to get rid of things, but letting go of old things and clutter can be very freeing. You can sell clothing items to resell shops or you can donate clothes to shelters. I love to give away items to donation boxes and others who are in need.
Pro Tip: Since clearing out your closet can leave a huge mess, group similar items together to help make everything more organized.
Step 2: Get key items to help you get organized
Investing in organizational pieces is a great way to get your closet organized. Depending on what you have in your closet will determine what you will need to create the best-organized closet space. You may not need all of these organizational pieces, but a lot of these items will prove to be very helpful when organizing your closet.
Non-Slip Velvet Hanger:
A great way to make your closet look neat and unified is by using hangers of the same color to hang up your clothing. I love the velvet non-slip hangers because they can instantly add a nice elegant touch to your closet. There is nothing like looking at a closet that has nice hangers of the same color. These hangers also keep your clothing from slipping off.

Shoe Organizers
If you find yourself with a lot of shoes with nothing to do with them, getting a shoe organizer for your closet is an awesome idea. The great thing about shoe organizers is that they come in all sizes and options. No matter the size of your closet you will be able to find the best option that is right for you. I love shoe organizers that allow you to display your shoes.

Step 3: Sort Your Clothing By Color
This may be an OCD type of thing, but I love color coordinating my clothes. I use the ROYGBIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, & violet) color sequence when it comes to arranging my clothes. I start with white and then transition to creams, pinks, reds, etc… There is something beautiful about a closet organized like a rainbow. This helps me to see what is in my closet and allows me to easily pick out what I want to wear.
Step 4: Within each Color sort Your Clothing by Sleeve Length & Clothing Type

Once you have organized your clothes by color, now it is time to organize your clothing by type (shirts with shirts, skirts with skirts, etc..) and sleeve length. When I organize my tops by sleeve length, I first start with tube tops, spaghetti straps, regular tanks, short sleeves, and then long sleeves. Once you are done, you will see how manageable your clothing is.
Pro Tip: Fold bulky items like sweaters and denim and jeans to save on space
Step 5: Display cute bags, shoes, and accessories
When I think of my closet, I almost like to think of it as a mini boutique. I love to display my cute handbags and jewelry. When it comes to handbags you can get bag shapers to give your bag the perfect shape. Bag shapers allow you to maintain the shape of your bag. They prevent slouching, wrinkles, and creasing which will allow your handbags to last longer. You can also use newspaper, t-shirts, or towels to help shape your handbags as well.
Pro Tip: Use wall space to hold items by installing hooks or shelves in your closet to give you more space to display your items. This helps you utilize all the closet space that you have available.

Step 6: Maintenence
Once you have organized your closet to your liking, it is important to maintain organization. The good news is you have already done all of the hard work. Maintaining an organized space is about putting things back in the right place once you are done with an item, doing weekly cleanings, and getting rid of things you do not need.
Once you make it a routine to upkeep your closet on a consistent basis, you will find that it will always stay organized!
