How to Relax After a Long Day

Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, or you work 8 hours a day, every mom deserves to be able to relax after a long day. I know for me after I have taken care of my family the whole day, I am left exhausted. Sometimes I feel like I am on auto-piolet, going through the day paying very little attention to myself. It is so important that you pour into yourself so you can be a better wife, mother, friend, etc…
If you read my previous post (How to Make The Most of Your Mornings), I talked about how important it is for you to start the day for yourself. Well at the end of the day it’s important to take care of yourself as well. Relaxing after a long day is so important to help you get started for the next day. Here are a few tips that help me relax after my long day! I hope you find these tips helpful.
Take a Nice Long Bath

I know this is something you probably can’t do every day, but try to dedicate two days out of the week to take a long hot bath. I love turning the lights off and lighting candles to help me relax. You can use a bubble bath, bath bomb, and/or bath salts to really take it over the top. But when you cant take a bath, you can do the same thing for when you take a shower. For me, I will still turn the lights off and light a candle with a long nice hot shower. Something about either of those relaxes me so much!
Pamper Yourself

Whether you put on your favorite mask, use your favorite Bath and Body Works product, or decide to paint your nails and toes, do something small just for yourself to make you feel beautiful. There is something about painted nails that make me feel really pretty. When I pour into myself physically, I really feel so much better mentally.
Watch Your Favorite Show

I don’t know about you but Paw Patrol, Bubble Guppies, and PJ Mask are always playing in my background. It’s almost like it’s my kid’s world, and I’m just living in it haha. But when they go to sleep, I love turning on something that I love to watch. It feels so good to snuggle up in the covers watching something uninterrupted, it is the best feeling ever. I just finished watching YOU, and I enjoyed watching an adult show. I even love just watching Disney+ by myself. It’s something about a good Disney movie that takes me away and makes me leave all the stress of the day behind.
Write in a Journal

Journaling is not just for when you were a teenager. Journaling can be done at any point in your life. For me, I like journaling about the day. But I use my journal as my safe space, I don’t put anything negative in it. I try to keep my mind in a positive space and journal about what made me happy that day. I like to journal about my goals and wishes for the future. I also journal about my children and my love for them. Keeping my journal in a positive space really helps me to relax after a very stressful day.
When all else fails…get rest

Sometimes I just don’t realize how tired I am. So when I lay down for the day, I am usually out in minutes. Because you work so hard as moms, you really don’t realize how tired you are until it just hits you. When you feel this way, try to go to sleep early and just sleep.
I hope these five tips help you relax after a long day! You deserve to pour into yourself. Always remember that you matter and you deserve to take time to do things that makes you feel good!
Krystal
These are wonderful ideas. I never get the chance to take a bath, but I definitely carve out a little TV time for myself. Although, I swear sometimes I’m on autopilot and am seconds away from clicking Paw Patrol or Shimmer and Shine to watch when it’s just my husband and I. My son has been on a Star Wars kick for four weeks in a row and it’s been a never ending tune of the Darth Vadar song. I’ve damn near lost my mind!
I used to keep a diary too!m and write about my day. I haven’t done it in a long time but it really did help me mellow out and free my thoughts!
That is so funny! I promise I feel like I know all of the episodes by heart lol. and wow 4 weeks of Star Wars?1? that’s crazy. So happy you get to have a little tv time to yourself!!
A must read post for all moms, they need a rest after a long tiring day. And I loved your last point that if everything fails take rest. Its very true.
haha sometimes I’m just so tired that I need to just go to sleep and I feel so much better!
I definitely always try to do at least one of these a day. Another I relax after a long week is to meet a friend Saturday mornings to walk our dogs, drink coffee and talk about the week.
That’s an awesome idea! I definitely am going to start doing that!
I do all of these after a long day too!
