Self Care Tips For the Holidays

This time of year is by far one of the best times ever. With all the holiday shopping, exciting activities, and fun family traditions, you can easily get swept away in all the holiday madness. Self Care is always important, but it is especially important during the holiday season. With all the stress of buying for others, fighting the craziness in the stores, and making this time special for your little ones, you can be left pouring from an empty cup. Sometimes I feel so exhausted during this time of year that I oftentimes want the holidays to be done and over with. But I don’t want to live my life like that.
I want to enjoy all the great moments and enjoy making beautiful memories with my family. That’s why I pour into myself a little more during the holidays. Taking time for myself allows me to be less exhausted, happier, and more cheerful. These Self Care Tips for the holidays will help you enjoy every moment and will allow you to be your best self during the holiday season! (For other self-care tips check out How to Relax After a Long Day).
Stop Trying to Be Perfect

Let’s be honest, when you’re a mom you will spend a lot of time trying to make Christmas perfect for your kids. I know for me, I like to make sure I get those precious handprints, make Christmas cookies, do festive activities, etc… Sometimes I try to be so perfect until the point where I literally wear myself out and I am left feeling exhausted.
I have come to learn that I do not need to be perfect in order for my children’s Christmas to be special. My children just simply love spending quality time with me. Sometimes it is the small stuff that matters the most. Having a mindset of not trying to do everything will help you not feel so depleted during the holidays.
Buy Yourself Something Special

This time of year is all about giving to others. Don’t get me wrong, I love to see my children’s faces when they open up their gifts. But I have come to learn that it is completely ok to buy yourself something special, whether it is big or small. Treating yourself to a nice gift reminds you that you are important and you matter as well. Buying yourself a gift is a great form of self-love, and will sure to bring a smile to your face as well!
Treat Yourself To a Great Meal

I don’t know about you, but I’m a foodie. I love food, especially during this time of year. But instead of cooking for others, treat yourself to a special meal. It can be inexpensive or expensive, just eat something that makes you happy. You can go out to eat with a best friend or on a date with a significant other. You can also have a dinner date with your kids or eat something special just by yourself. No matter the who, what when, or why just treat yourself to something you love.
Have Some ‘Me Time’

Whenever you find spare time, try to make time for yourself. You can wake up early to meditate, read the bible, or just have a cup of coffee to yourself. Making time for yourself allows you to pour into yourself, which is very important. When the holidays are over, I sometimes feel so depleted because I am mentally exhausted. When I make time for myself, I end up being a better version of myself.
Do Something You Love to Do

Doing something you love to do is very important as well! This goes right along with making time for yourself. Everyone should have a hobby that they enjoy doing, whether it’s painting, running, or scrapbooking. No matter what it is, do something that you really enjoy doing.
I created this blog because I needed to do something for myself. Up until now, I never really had hobbies. I have always loved fashion and beauty, but I did not know how to incorporate that into my everyday life. When I got into blogging, I was able to pour my interest into a hobby that I really enjoy. Pouring into my blog is a big highlight of my day, and I am so happy to have something that I enjoy doing.
Have a Spa Day

Having a spa day is a great form of self-care, especially during the holidays. It can be a spa day at a real spa or at home. Having a spa day does not have to be expensive at all. Listen, please don’t skip out on the dollar tree. They have everything you need to create the perfect at-home spa oasis. You can get bath salts, lotions, candles, etc… My point is, anyone can have a spa experience, which can make you feel so good. You can have a nice hot bath with relaxing bath salts and music or you can give yourself an at-home manicure and pedicure.
Watch Your Favorite Show or Movie

A good ol movie is a great way to relax and enjoy yourself during this time of the year. Find a movie or show that you love or that you have been wanting to watch. Also, to be honest, it doesn’t always have to be a holiday movie (Although I LOVE holiday movies let me start by saying that haha). Sometimes if you’re already feeling overwhelmed from the holidays, a small little break from all things holidays is completely ok. Once you take a small little holiday breather, you can jump back in like you never left. But my point is, find something that makes you laugh, feel good, and be happy.
I know how special holidays are. For me, I love giving more than I love receiving. I love to see the joy and happiness of others. But I am slowly starting to learn that in order for me to be my best self, I have to love myself too. You are important, and it is important for you to pour self-love into yourself so you can be your very best. I hope these self-care tips prove to be very beneficial during the holidays.

Thank you for the reminder that we need to take care of ourselves, not just everyone else. It is easy to feel guilty when we do something for ourselves. I
Love this! Self care is so easy to ignore when it is such a busy time, but this is when you need it the most! Thanks for the reminder and some great tips!
The holidays are brutal! This is a great list of self-care activities. I am a huge foodie so I am absolutely in love with the meal tip! Nothing better than a properly prepared meal with a matching glass of wine 🍷❤️
That sounds awesome!!
